PS5 Pro Still Set for 2024 Release, State of Play Scheduled for September

Jeff Grubb has provided the latest updates on Sony’s plans. On his Game Mess Mornings show, the reliable Giant Bomb contributor mentioned that the PS5 Pro is still on track for release before the year ends. Additionally, we might see a State of Play event in just a few weeks. In the video above, Grubb discusses these topics, addressing the claim that the PS5 Pro is an “open secret” among developers at Gamescom. He asserts that the upgraded console is still expected in 2024, stating, “Last I heard, [PS5 Pro] is still coming out this year.” Grubb also mentions hearing more recently about an upcoming State of Play event, not a Showcase, which is anticipated to go live by the end of September. He speculates that the PS5 Pro could be featured in this event, questioning, “Where else would it be?” While the PS5 Pro hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, rumors and leaks about the enhanced console have been circulating for some time. Moreover, there’s been growing anticipation about a PlayStation presentation since the last State of Play in May. Given Grubb’s reliability and the ongoing speculation, it’s likely that he’s accurate on both counts.

PS5 Review: Concord

Concord is not the disaster that the surrounding discourse might suggest. This online first-person shooter, the debut project from Sony studio Firewalk, boasts impressive production values, a fair business model, and an engaging gameplay loop. However, its main drawback is its lack of a distinct identity: it’s clear that the developer drew heavy inspiration from Guardians of the Galaxy. While the game does make an effort to carve out its own path, this could ultimately be its downfall. Concord is the second of PlayStation’s highly discussed live service titles, following the record-breaking success of Helldivers 2 earlier this year. Available on PS5 and PC, the game is a premium release priced at $40/£35, with all 16 characters and 12 maps accessible to everyone from day one. There are no microtransactions, Battle Passes, or hidden costs, although the studio has mentioned plans to sell cosmetics in the future.

Monster Jam Showdown Review (PS5)

The Monster Jam series has been a familiar presence on PlayStation with numerous entries. After Rainbow Studios developed the underwhelming MTX vs ATV Legends, the license moved to Milestone, known for creating the recent Hot Wheels Unleashed series. With Monster Jam Showdown, Milestone has brought its racing expertise to the franchise, delivering a more engaging set of events and a stylish presentation. The game’s primary career mode, Showdown Tour, takes place across various environments, offering a range of courses and tracks to race on. From the obstacle-laden woods of Colorado to the frozen lakes of Alaska, each location presents unique challenges, such as icy tracks that can cause skidding and large jumps over canyons. Moreover, weather changes can impact how your monster truck performs. A snowstorm might severely impair your visibility, while thunder and rain can make tight turns more difficult. This adds much-needed variety and excitement to the franchise, along with different event types like a knockout battle royale-style race, a head-to-head racing bracket with multiple rounds, and skill arenas that challenge you to complete a combo chain of skills without crashing to achieve a specific score. The game features a robust collection of over 60 monster trucks to collect and upgrade, nearly 150 liveries to unlock, and a variety of challenges and objectives to complete both in your account and within the Showdown Tour. The only aspect we haven’t had the chance to test is the online multiplayer, but all race types are available for online play.
