Concord is not the disaster that the surrounding discourse might suggest. This online first-person shooter, the debut project from Sony studio Firewalk, boasts impressive production values, a fair business model, and an engaging gameplay loop. However, its main drawback is its lack of a distinct identity: it’s clear that the developer drew heavy inspiration from Guardians of the Galaxy. While the game does make an effort to carve out its own path, this could ultimately be its downfall.
Concord is the second of PlayStation’s highly discussed live service titles, following the record-breaking success of Helldivers 2 earlier this year. Available on PS5 and PC, the game is a premium release priced at $40/£35, with all 16 characters and 12 maps accessible to everyone from day one. There are no microtransactions, Battle Passes, or hidden costs, although the studio has mentioned plans to sell cosmetics in the future.
